Using ICT in preparing and choosing a graph,Class - V,Mathematics.Final Blog,2019

I taught this lesson on 21st  of October, 2019. It was for class five mathematics on the topic of choosing a Graph. The main objectives of the lesson were to collect the data and to show the information in the form of a picture graph and bar graph. They were three activities included in the plan. In the first activity, I have shown them how to draw graphs using shapes which means inserting shapes and in the second activity, they were asked to collect the information on favorite fruits, favorite vegetables, number of sisters and number of children from four different Chiwogs in group wise.
They were asked to work in groups to draw the graphs using shapes. In the third activity, a pop corn choice was given to a group and a volunteer group presented their work to the whole class using projector.
What did I learn from the lesson?
It was an informative learning experience for me. If provided the platform for children with proper guidance and instructions, they were able to learn and present to the class. The time allocated for each activity was sufficient but for the last activity, the volunteer group only was able to present and rest groups are struggling to finish their work however, I have seen lots of positive vibes in them. Others were asked to present it in the next class.
The lesson was fruitful as it was audible and explained in simple language and moreover, they didn’t face any difficulty as it was the continuation of the previous topic on the pictograph. Providing the platform for the students to draw the graphs in the desktop as a part of an activity is more enjoyable which in turn helps the children to get engage meaningfully without diverting their attention and henceforth I have to select the interesting lesson by adapting to the new strategy in teaching and learning and moreover enough practice should be given especially in dividing the intervals, inserting the shapes accurately.

Substitution Class, facilitated through ICT, fiddled by students' themselves

I was asked to substitute class II on 4th of October, 2019 in the third period. I had no plan prepared for the class as I got the information during the second period when I was teaching Maths in class five.
I went to the class empty handed thinking that I will engage children in reading but it was not the way I thought. I suggested reading but all most, all the members of the class wanted to watch Rapunzel story as I have shown the same to other classes few days back. They were few numbers of picture stories saved in my lap top but on that day I did not take it to school.
I accepted their request and took the students to the school computer lab. Firstly, I have shown them how to download the story on Rapunzal from net through projector. Then, they are asked to form groups and I asked them to download the stories on Rapunzel from the internet. In groups, they are asked to watch and read the story that they have downloaded.
Later I projected the story on the screen and the students are asked to watch.
The discussion began with question and answer session. A boy summarized the whole story to the class saying that it was interesting. Around three to six children have not understood the story and asked the individual group to share to their members.

To motivate children in learning, it is sometimes useful to use audio visual kits in daily classroom teaching as children develops their feeling and love listening to the animals having the conversation. They are once more asked to look at the story in their group computer.

From the lesson, I came to know that children enjoy watching or listening to stories. We must create a learning space to groom right from the beginning. Besides, I found that when students explore themselves through internet, they find it difficult to get the topic that they are asked to find out by the teacher and in the process they learn a lot. Though it was time consuming, I found out a joy in the faces of the children. Today teaching through ICT has really made the lesson enriching beyond my expectation.
