Using ICT in preparing and choosing a graph,Class - V,Mathematics.Final Blog,2019

I taught this lesson on 21st  of October, 2019. It was for class five mathematics on the topic of choosing a Graph. The main objectives of the lesson were to collect the data and to show the information in the form of a picture graph and bar graph. They were three activities included in the plan. In the first activity, I have shown them how to draw graphs using shapes which means inserting shapes and in the second activity, they were asked to collect the information on favorite fruits, favorite vegetables, number of sisters and number of children from four different Chiwogs in group wise.
They were asked to work in groups to draw the graphs using shapes. In the third activity, a pop corn choice was given to a group and a volunteer group presented their work to the whole class using projector.
What did I learn from the lesson?
It was an informative learning experience for me. If provided the platform for children with proper guidance and instructions, they were able to learn and present to the class. The time allocated for each activity was sufficient but for the last activity, the volunteer group only was able to present and rest groups are struggling to finish their work however, I have seen lots of positive vibes in them. Others were asked to present it in the next class.
The lesson was fruitful as it was audible and explained in simple language and moreover, they didn’t face any difficulty as it was the continuation of the previous topic on the pictograph. Providing the platform for the students to draw the graphs in the desktop as a part of an activity is more enjoyable which in turn helps the children to get engage meaningfully without diverting their attention and henceforth I have to select the interesting lesson by adapting to the new strategy in teaching and learning and moreover enough practice should be given especially in dividing the intervals, inserting the shapes accurately.

Substitution Class, facilitated through ICT, fiddled by students' themselves

I was asked to substitute class II on 4th of October, 2019 in the third period. I had no plan prepared for the class as I got the information during the second period when I was teaching Maths in class five.
I went to the class empty handed thinking that I will engage children in reading but it was not the way I thought. I suggested reading but all most, all the members of the class wanted to watch Rapunzel story as I have shown the same to other classes few days back. They were few numbers of picture stories saved in my lap top but on that day I did not take it to school.
I accepted their request and took the students to the school computer lab. Firstly, I have shown them how to download the story on Rapunzal from net through projector. Then, they are asked to form groups and I asked them to download the stories on Rapunzel from the internet. In groups, they are asked to watch and read the story that they have downloaded.
Later I projected the story on the screen and the students are asked to watch.
The discussion began with question and answer session. A boy summarized the whole story to the class saying that it was interesting. Around three to six children have not understood the story and asked the individual group to share to their members.

To motivate children in learning, it is sometimes useful to use audio visual kits in daily classroom teaching as children develops their feeling and love listening to the animals having the conversation. They are once more asked to look at the story in their group computer.

From the lesson, I came to know that children enjoy watching or listening to stories. We must create a learning space to groom right from the beginning. Besides, I found that when students explore themselves through internet, they find it difficult to get the topic that they are asked to find out by the teacher and in the process they learn a lot. Though it was time consuming, I found out a joy in the faces of the children. Today teaching through ICT has really made the lesson enriching beyond my expectation.

Reflection on ICT to Impart Life Skills topic: Problem Solving Skills, Class - 8.

Reflection on ICT to impart Life Skills topic on Problem solving skills
Class-8.

As I enter the class on 19th of September, 2019. My objective is by the end of the lesson, each child should be able to critically evaluate situations for problem solving and effective decision making.
Life skill being used: Self-awareness, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and creative thinking.
Firstly, I greeted the class and recap what they have learned in the previous class. Ask them if they have faced any problems in their life?
Ask them what are the different kinds of problems they faced so far?
REMINDED THEM TO BE CONFIDENTAIL
If yes, ask them how did they solve the problem? What are the steps involved in solving the problems?
Tell students that everybody faces problems daily. Life is like a journey on the road full of thorns, we must make best use of our skills so that the thorns do not prick us. Some problems could affect our health if we do not solve them skillfully. Today, we are going to discuss on the PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS.
This time I have recorded a problem faced by one of the student of my class in my mobile phone and let all the students hear his situation. This was done in the class in groups. Let them hear to the problem twice or thrice. They will also hear how he has overcome his problems.
After that I have shared 5 EASY STEPS TO PROBLEM SOLVING through What, Why, How, Which and Act solutions. Through this lesson, I was able to give the message that Problem solving is the important life skill which is used every day by all ,It is a skill which can be developed by constant practice,Problem solving can be carried out by asking five different questions and Problem solving skill can help us to protect from diseases and promote our health.

Using Video Clips to enhance the teaching of finding the area of Composite Shapes in Grade - 5 Class.

It was on 6th of September,2019, I taught this lesson. It was for class five mathematics on the topic Area of composite shapes.   The main aim to teach the topic was to make familiar on the topic and how to find the area by dividing the irregular shapes into familiar shapes. The activities were divided in to three parts like class discussion, class presentation and a video lesson. In the first activity the children were asked to estimate the area of their geometry box followed by class discussion.
The class presentation was made by explaining the meaning of a composite shapes with the help of a diagram and later followed by video lesson. They were asked to watch the video and later carried an activity to find the area of a composite shape by dividing it into other shapes..
It was a valuable and informative learning experience for me. Firstly I got lots of video lesson as per children’s standard. The time allocated for each activity was sufficient.   I actually did not expect to be able to arrange this as well as I did.  Although video presentation was difficult for few children to understand the language due to tone of voice and limited vocabularies, they really did enjoy watching it.
After watching the video, most of the children started asking lots of question and I have to explain it further which indicates that they have understood the lesson well. Incorporating video lesson as a part of an activity is more enjoyable which in turn helps the children to get engage meaningfully without diverting their attention and hence forth I have to select the interesting lesson by adapting to new strategy in teaching and learning.

The Use of ICT enhances Teaching and Learning

Use of ICT in teaching has immensely helped the learners to get motivated to carry out the given tasks without any difficulties. On the other hand the workloads of the teachers were drastically reduced and the atmosphere of the class rooms were completely made changes whenever the ICT aids are introduced in the daily teaching and learning purpose.

On 22nd of August, 2019 in the second period, I taught class five maths on the topic dividing four digit numbers by one digit for duration of fifty minutes. The children were asked to brainstorm by providing a question in a group before introducing the topic. Any member from the group was asked to present to the whole class and everybody made a right choice in introducing the topic.

The lesson began by revisiting the previous lesson and explained the difference between dividend, divisor, quotient and the remainder. The video lesson on dividing four digit numbers by one digit number was presented to the whole class and later the children were asked to clear their doubts if any.

After watching the video lesson, the groups were assigned a question each. In the mean time I moved around the class and observed their work. It was found that all the group completed their task on time with correct procedure shown on the video. Few members read the answer to the whole class. In the closure part, I talked on the importance of division in our life by narrating few examples and assigned two division questions as a home work.

I personally feel that whenever we teach any topic it is always better to show video clips and let the children explore them self before the teacher provide the detail explanation. From the lesson, the children have found that division is a skill we use daily as it is an important decision in sharing the expenses either on monthly or daily basis within the family. In school the tasks are divided among the members to have fair and equal justice.

Whenever the task is provided in a group, I must focus more on the weaker children and encourage them to take part equally like other members in a team, so that they are not neglected. Over all the lesson went well but I also need to include few essay questions.

My classroom experience of using ICT

On 7th August, 2019 in the 5th period, I taught class five mathematics on the topic multiplying two digit numbers by two digits for duration of fifty minutes. Before the session the materials were set ready in advance to deliberate the lesson effectively. The lesson began with asking questions on the importance of multiplication. The group members were provided two minutes time to complete the task. Every member from the group had different thoughts and has understood the purpose of learning the multiplication.
The lesson Development activities started with gaining attention and gradually the instruction for the activities were provided. There were four activities included in the lesson that need to be completed as per the plan. In the first activity, the children were asked to recite the multiplication tables from two to nine for the duration of five minutes. In the second activity, the traditional method of multiplication were revisited.
In the third activity, the video on Egyptian method of multiplication was presented to the whole class by using laptop screen for three minutes and in the fourth activity, children were asked to solve a question each individually by using the Egyptian method of multiplication and later few children presented to the whole class. In the lesson closure children were asked to compare the difference between the traditional method of multiplication and Egyptian method of multiplication.
By using ICT facilities in the Lesson, I have found that children take lots of interest in learning by asking questions. The class becomes interactive after watching the videos and few children were found sharing their ideas with their friends from different classes during the off hours. None of the children from the class were left behind. All the class members were found watching seriously. In the next class, I have to take the students to the IT laboratory in consultation with the IT instructor by making necessary arrangements for good exposure of ICT facilities for my children.
